Join a historical milestone within the wrestling sports-based youth development sphere. You get to grow with us as you develop and grow our regional capacity beyond Boston, to reach across New England!

Boston Youth Wrestling (BYW) was founded in 2012 by Jose Valenzuela to address middle school and then high school students who are struggling in life’s transitions by “giving kids a fighting chance” academically, mentally, and physically. BYW teamed up with Up2Us Sports to train trauma-informed mentor-coaches to be a trusted and empathetic source for our student-athletes to build relationships with themselves, their teams, and communities.

BYW is joining forces with Beat the Streets Providence in the first New England Regional Flagship for a wrestling-based youth development organization, Beat the Streets New England. The Capacity Development VISTA’s (CDV) role will support the Operations and Development Manager with developing a regional plan and bolstering the team’s effectiveness to deliver fundraising campaigns. The CDV will provide research on foundations and funders who resonate with our mission and support efforts in grant writing cycles.

Member Duties: Supporting the Operations and Development Manager with building out the development plan for the region along with capacity building, and organizational training. Main tasks include planning support on fundraisers, template updates for grant writing- Letters of Interest (LOIs), Requests For Proposal (RFPs), researching and identifying new grants to support regional expansion, documenting all work, and any essential duties that support the development team in their mission. You will be helping to grow the organization’s capacity across New England and supporting the development plans of each new city.

Interests: In order to fulfill this role, you are passionate about research, data, and writing narratives about our motto, “Giving Kids a Fighting Chance.” Experience in wrestling is not a requirement. Interest in the value of sports and youth development is essential.
