BTSNE Athletes Shine at 2023 Beat the Streets National Duals; Girls’ Squad Wins Title for Second Consecutive Year
For the second straight year, our BTSNE athletes took home a first-place finish in the girls’ division at the second annual Beat the Streets National Camp & Duals, presented by ASICS, June 26-29, at Wintrust Sports Complex in Bedford Park, Illinois.
Our girls were a perfect 4-0, besting BTS Los Angeles, 43-24 in the finals for our second BTS National Duals crown in as many years. The team also notched convincing victories over BTS Baltimore, BTS Cleveland, and a mixed team of athletes from multiple BTS cities, called team Red White and Blue along the way.

Additionally, our BTSNE boys’ team recorded an impressive (3-1) dual meet record over their four days in the Windy City, securing wins over Beat the Streets Philadelphia, Beat the Streets Detroit and a mixed team of athletes from multiple BTS cities. Our lone loss came to event host Beat the Streets Chicago – which won the boys’ division.

“This trip embodied what Beat the Streets New England is all about,” BTSNE coach Brett Poirier said. “With at least one athlete representing every state we watched this team bond together over the course of the week. From the team building, the enrichment, and the competitions, this team grew so much during this event.”
|
“I thought the guys did an excellent job on the mats all week,” BTSNE coach Brad Lewis said. “They were sound in their fundamentals and it showed in the final results. Give credit to BTS Chicago for winning it all. “[Overall], The boys ended with a 3-1 as a team, and everyone gave a solid effort and learned a lot in each of the instructional clinics.”

While our showing on the mats was certainly something we are immensely proud of, we are thankful for the numerous other memorable team bonding events and experiences we were able to have in Chicago – bringing all of our athletes, coaches, and support staff from both Boston and Providence together as one. These events included roller skating, taking in a game at historic Wrigley Field, a boat cruise along Lake Michigan with dinner and dancing, a variety of instructional clinics, and more.
“The trip was super fun, meeting kids from all across the U.S. was really cool and my drilling partners quickly became my friends. I’m super grateful that BTSNE brought me [to Chicago],” BTSNE 138-pounder and Boston Latin School senior captain Dante Shepherd said. “My favorite non-wrestling event was probably the roller skating rink. Even though a lot of people didn’t go, it was early in the trip and forced people to go out of their comfort zone with people they had met that day, [which I enjoyed].”
Shepherd’s teammate and fellow senior, Ezana Molla of Match Charter High School in Boston echoed those sentiments when discussing his own experience.
“Chicago was a great experience for me,” Molla said. “Last year it seemed like all we was doing was wrestling and even though we love wrestling it would have been ideal to do something more than wrestling. But this year has a balance. We had wrestling but we also had roller skating, we had the Cubs game and we had the final dinner on the Yacht.”
“As someone who doesn’t get the chance to wrestle on varsity the competition was there for me. There was a-lot of people I could compete with, there was a-lot of people I could learn from. It was great to learn from everyone,” Molla continued.

Because of your generous and continued support, BTSNE is proud to continue to provide our athletes with unique competition and experiential opportunities on and off the mat. None of this would be possible without your help!
Sincerely,
Beat the Streets New England
