Roxbury, MA — Boston Youth Wrestling is excited to announce the hiring of Addison Ray to be our new Program Coordinator.
Addison was born in Seoul, South Korea, but was adopted and raised in Belchertown, Massachusetts. He started wrestling when he was 11 and fell in love with the sport instantly. He was never athletic growing up, but with encouragement from his first coach he continued to push hard to become better. When he got to high school he made the varsity team as a freshman. He would have an up and down career, but would cap off his final year with a top 5 placement at sectionals.
Addison would go to Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Ma. There he would earn his Bachelors in Accounting and Marketing. While working towards his degree, he would go back to his old team to become an assistant coach. Addison would learn what it means to be a coach and how to help athletes achieve their own goals. After 4 years of assistant coaching, the high school would ask him to return as the head coach the next year. Addison would go on to coach that season before being given an opportunity in baseball.
After one season as a head coach, Addison would get a chance to work in amateur sports. The Valley Blue Sox of Holyoke, Ma. provided that opportunity. After his initial internship, the New England Collegiate Baseball League team offered him a position in the front office. There he would assist and lead sponsor relations, game day operations, intern management, and much more. During his tenure the team went on to win 2 championships and would be ranked in the Top 10 summer baseball teams in the country for 3 years in a row.
“I am excited for the growth of Beat the Streets Boston (BYW),” said Executive Director Bior Guigni. “Having Addison come on board as our Program Coordinator means a lot for the future of our organization. In a short period of time Addison has already immersed himself into our community and has gained the trust and admiration of our youth, parents and guardians, staff, volunteers and administrators at our partner sites. We look forward to now being able to strengthen our infrastructure and increase our impact reach with the support that Addison is now providing.”
Addison has already been at many of our tournaments helping out coaching and coordinating with our partner sites. BYW is thrilled to have him on board as we continue to grow and expand our reach throughout the city of Boston.
