East Boston, MA — This past Sunday October 6th, Cunard Tavern in East Boston played host to the 1st Annual East Boston Cornhole Classic to benefit youth sports for neighborhood children. The successful raised $10,000 for programming at BYW’s East Boston neighborhood schools, including the Donald McKay K-8 School and future programming at East Boston High School. “With these funds we will be able to purchase a brand new wrestling mat for this community and help continue to grow the sport of wrestling in this diverse neighborhood that we love so much,” said Executive Director Bior Guigni.

Carmen Rondash who this year is BYW’s Ambassador of Mentoring funded by Mass Mentoring and Highland Street Foundation was extremely encouraged from the day’s event. “It was really great, the kids that were there had a lot of fun, and it was family-friendly. My own kids asked to come back next year!”

The event was the brain child of longtime BYW Board Member Philip Frattaroli who is the Principal Owner of the Filmark Hospitality Group which operates Cunard Tavern in East Boston, as well as Filippo’s in the North End. BYW would like to thank the sponsors of the event in addition to Cunard Tavern (whose logos are included below) without whose support this event would not have been possible.
